Lent, the McGivney Way, Part three

The founder of the Knights of Columbus, Blessed Michael McGivney, gave us a framework for Catholic men in our Lenten self-denial and spiritual growth. It is the very principles of Charity, Unity and Fraternity. In prior weeks we focused on Charity and Unity. As Knights we cherish the brotherhood and solidarity we and our families share.  We must practice patience and forbearance to nurture that fraternity. It can require us to abstain from an angry remark or thoughtless outburst. We need to make room in our hearts for one with whom we disagree. In a word, we need to “fast” from the selfishness that undermines our fraternity with one another, with Christ. “Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto Me.”

Lent the McGivney way boils down to this: Charity corresponds to almsgiving; unity to prayer, fraternity to fasting. Guided by the principles that our Founder left us, may we experience the best Lent ever.

The Mackey Family is a pillar of the St Anne parish. Jeff is the Deputy Grand Knight, and recently responsible for coordinating the meal as Co-host for our KofC TriDistrict meeting. His wife Stephanie demonstrates family values in her support behind the scenes for that event, in addition to her significant role as the Youth Minister for our parish. She recently spearheaded a Youth Group Euchre Night fundraiser for the two Seminarians our Council supports, bringing in well over $1,500 in donations to ease their financial burdens. Her son James was one of the workers for that event, and is active in the youth group. He also helps with our Pancake breakfasts. Clara is also active in the youth group as well as stepping up to be a lector at mass. They are a shining example of a strong Catholic family and deserve our award for Family of the Month for March 2025. Please help me congratulate them and pray with me for the vitality of the Mackey family.
