Happy Father’s Day!

Carpe Diem! Fathers, seize the day as the expression goes. What better day to claim your most vital role as a Catholic father? The family home is the “domestic church”, where prayer, community and virtue are taught. It is in this family that children develop their relationship with God and their neighbor.

Today they’re even more likely to “honor their father”. It’ll never be easier to add a new form of parental guidance. God’s counting on you.  Nurture prayer at bedtimes and mealtimes, with open communication about how you live your faith. Maybe add a scripture reading to the  prayer to discuss during the meal (DailyMassReadings.org).  You could lead your family with a monthly rosary (after mass today!) Actions speak even louder than words. Maybe it’s time to join the Knights even for one event a year. Your children will notice. (Joining is currently free, by the way).

It can be lonely as the head of the family. Last Tuesday a couple dozen of us gathered together to pray and plan works of charity (we donated $35k to 18 local charities last year). We have a meeting each month which starts and ends in prayer. Many other Knights can commit to only one event a year, and yet we welcome them as Brothers. How can we support you? I’m always available by phone or text to chat: (248) 891-9118.  Happy Father’s Day!
