For the Knights of Columbus, that means not only running charity fundraisers to support local organizations (like the Club Create North Oakland County highlighted last week), but also using our time and talent for non-monetary charity. An example: The retaining fence surrounding the Parish’s East drainage swale was in need of repair, and this Spring Brothers Gerard Schmid, Bob Norris and others donated the wood and talent to make repairs. You’ll notice the nice refurbished park benches that make our new entryway concrete more complete. Jim Russell and Jeff Mackey (and Fr. John ) joined me in the 40 man-hour renovation project, donating time, elbow grease and stain. Have a seat!
For the past few years St. Anne Knights have sponsored a section of Oakwood Road East from M15. Early this Saturday you may have seen your fellow parishioners in dayglo yellow vests picking up trash. We don’t get money for this. Twice a year we do our part to beautify our town because it fits with the Values of the Knights of Columbus. What a great recruitment piece, eh? “Join the Knights and come pickup trash!” *Chuckle* Not everything is glorious, but it’s all for the Glory of God.
If you haven’t yet committed to attending our October 1st KofC Award Dinner, please contact me this week so we can order the food from Italia Gardens. It’ll be a feast, and the Council is paying. If you’re interested in becoming a Knight (because picking up trash was irresistible), I’ll buy you and a guest dinner so you can see what we’re all about.
Vivat Jesus!
Bryan Born, Grand Knight
