This weekend concludes our Frank’s Farm Market for 2024. Frank Genovese was a prolific gardener (in addition to Master Christmas Tree farmer) with his wife Cathy. I first met Frank many years ago in an all-day organic gardening workshop he taught at the 4H Fairgrounds. I attended with my mom, and I came away with a new appreciation for all the wonderful nutrients God is dropping from our trees this month. But I digress… Frank opened his backyard to the Knights for years, guiding us to plant a bountiful harvest to take to our tables and share with the parish. It is in his honor we continue his legacy with Frank’s Farm Market. I’m pleased to announce that your donations have raised over $1,000 this year.
This funds programs like HAVEN, to which we donate $1,000 yearly. As Oakland County’s only comprehensive program for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, HAVEN provides shelter, counseling, advocacy and educational programming to nearly 30,000 people each year. www.haven-oakland.org for those in need, or to support their work. Know that the dollars you donate for the veggies we’ve grown are helping to nurture a safe haven for our local community.
We are midway through our mission to assist Cook’s Farm by picking pumpkins and assembling corn stalk bundles for sale. To date we have picked over 1,500 pumpkins, and tied more than 200 bundles, and more help is needed. You can show up on Thursday 9 am in the Cook’s Farm Pavilion with gloves and sturdy shoes. Teens, wives and parishioners who like free ice cream are all welcome. Other times for help are available. Please let me know by text, phone or smoke signal of your plans.
