The founder of the Knights of Columbus, Blessed Michael McGivney, gave us a framework for Catholic men in our Lenten self-denial and spiritual growth. It is the very principles of Charity, Unity and Fraternity. In the next three weeks, we will explore ways that you can deepen your Lenten experience, beginning this week with the principle of Charity.
If we are to fully open our hearts to Jesus, our hearts must embrace the acts of charity. Indeed, almsgiving is a most beneficial Lenten practice. So too are other forms of charitable outreach. Reaching out to help a needy neighbor, widow, or a fellow parishioner are worthy endeavors. Strive to put the needs of others ahead of yourself a bit more this Lenten season. Sometimes that hardest part is offering to help. Christ will recognize that effort itself as a deepening of your love for Him. Can you commit this Lenten season to donate to one more Knights event? Our April MI drive always needs brothers with a few hours to give; the Woodlot will be open on Wednesdays and some Saturdays and could always use help; or maybe you’re in town for Labor Day this year and can commit to a day of service at the Renaissance Festival with the Knights. Only God needs to know today; you can follow up with the council later in the year.
Brothers,
Our monthly General Meeting will begin by attending the Penance service in the Church at 7pm March 11th. The normal meeting will begin after the service has concluded.
